Pfizer Canada and Canadian Pain Society Post Doctoral Fellowship, 2012

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AWARD, 2012

The Canadian Pain Society in partnership with Pfizer Canada is pleased to announce the Pain Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. This award will support highly qualified candidates at the postPhD stage to add to their experience by engaging in pain research at a Canadian institution. Applications will also be considered from individuals who wish to complete further postdoctoral research at institutions outside of Canada; however such requests should clearly justify the selection of a training site outside of Canada.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in a painrelated field and be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant with permanent Canadian residence.
This award also includes economy travel to the annual Canadian Pain Society Conference, one night’s hotel accommodation at the conference hotel rate, complimentary conference registration for one day and a complimentary dinner ticket.
The recipient will be announced at the dinner/awards evening at the 2012 conference.
The value of the award is $40,000 per year for up to 2 years (2012 & 2013).
Applicants must submit a cover letter, a 2 page summary of the proposed research to be conducted during the postdoctoral fellowship, CV, and 2 letters of reference, one of which must come from the applicant’s PhD supervisor. A letter of support from the proposed supervisor that the candidate will work with for their postdoctoral fellowship year is also required. The successful candidate will be expected to present a report to the review committee upon completion of the fellowship. The applicant must be a current member of the Canadian Pain Society.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
The Royal Canadian Legion, Provincial Council Ladies’ Auxiliary University Scholarship is open to any student who is a resident of the Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario Command and who is entering or continuing in the Faculty of Physio/Occupational Therapy or Bachelor of Nursing in a recognized Canadian University on a full-time basis.
The number and amount of the scholarship will be determined annually by the Provincial Council according to funds available. Fifty percent (50%) of this amount will be given to the successful candidate when he/she is informed that they have received the scholarship.
To be eligible for the Physio/Occupational Therapy Scholarship, the applicant must have completed a minimum of the first year of study in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (five full courses, three courses of which must be Biology, Psychology and Sociology).
To be eligible for the Bachelor of Nursing Scholarship, the applicant must have completed a minimum of Grade XII, with the University prerequisites as part of their course of study.
Applications must be received by the Provincial Council by September 30th of each year.
In addition to a completed application form, applications must include the following:
Letter of acceptance to the University indicting the Faculty to which the student has been admitted

Desirable Qualification

Adequate skills for computer aided data management and analysis is highly desirable.
Project Description
The project envisage to collect biodiversity data from EIAs and develop a web based facility for long-term archival, and accessibility through IndBIF and GBIF portals.

Develop best practice guidelines for EIA practitioners, and document lesson-learnt for establishing and fostering of ‘EIA biodiversity data publishing facilities in other regions
Job  Description
The job would involve exploring biodiversity data from EIA reports, provide continuous support for data exploration from other known sources, visiting to different institutions to explore availability of recent, relevant and reliable biodiversity data, accessing EIA reports from MoEF, project consultants, electronic sources and sifting these for relevant data that is publishable and working closely with IT professionals to process data for publishing portals.
