Workshop on Health benefitting phytoceuticals from vegetables, fruits and non food crops

Workshop
on
“HEALTH BENEFITTING PHYTOCEUTICALS FROM VEGETABLES, FRUITS AND NON FOOD CROPS”

(March 21-23, 2012)ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
There has been an explosion of consumer interest in health enhancing role of physiologically-active nutraceuticals and other phytoceuticals derived from fruits, vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, spices, and other non-food crops. In the past, emphasis has been laid on production and use of biomolecules for effective management of heart ailments, diabetes, cancer, and other physiological disorders. The global market for such natural products is expanding rapidly at a CAGR of 10-15%. Researchers have identified hundreds of compounds with functional qualities, and they continue to make new discoveries surrounding the complex benefits of phytochemicals in foods. Fruits, vegetables and several other non-food crops are rich source of bioactive flavonoides, carotenoides, anthocyanins, vitamins, and other polyphenolics. Such compounds provide health benefits by disease prevention through antioxidant activity and reduced disease risks. In the past few years, emphasis has been laid on the use of nutraceuticals as antioxidants for the management of malnutrition, heart ailments, diabetes, cancer and other physical disorders. Natural food colorants are also in great demand as these make foods more attractive. Nutraceuticals that are based on clear scientific data demonstrating efficacy and safety will indeed be a good and beneficial link between nutrition and medicine. Workshop will focus on recent developments on health benefitting nutraceuticals and functional foods derived from vegetables, fruits and non-food crops
