The Clinical Research Branch (CRB) of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to participate in research projects associated with the age-related dysregulation of glucose and energy metabolism. Current intervention studies of the physiology of taste receptors and islet function are ongoing. In addition, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of aging are ongoing using data from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) in order to understand how age-related changes in endocrine function are co-factors for poor quality of life and disability. The BLSA, active for nearly 50 years, represents one of the longest ongoing longitudinal studies of aging in the world and findings from this study are milestones in what we currently know about the  aging process.
Responsibilities include study design, protocol development, development of research techniques and procedures, study implementation and monitoring, data acquisition, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate must have an MD or PhD with training in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, physiology or bioinformatics. Good communication skills and ability to work on a variety of projects are essential.

There are currently timely no cell culture model(s) that can duplicate the complex physiological and chemical processes associated with HIV associated neuronal degeneration. Our laboratory is interested in understanding the pathophysiology underlying neuronal dysfunction in HIV infected patient. The incumbent will serve as a team member responsible for characterizing the degree of neuropathology in a noninfectious animal model of HIV (HIV-1 transgenic rat) by analysis of inflammatory and biological markers of disease.
The applicant should be able to work well with others as well as independently.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic qualifications include a doctorate degree from an accredited college/university in the Biological Sciences (e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology) and a minimum of 2-4 years' experience in industry/academia in the following areas:

A post doctoral fellow position will be available in the Section of Endocrine Physiology (SEP) of the Program in Developmental Endocrinology and Genetics (PDEGEN), at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, beginning August 2012. SEP investigates the neuroendocrine mechanisms of adaptation to stress using a combination of physiological, molecular, biochemical, and epigenetic approaches. Available projects focus either on the transcriptional regulation of stress related neuropeptides, or the molecular mechanisms determining pulsatile glucocorticoid secretion at the adrenal and pituitary glands, or the effects of early life experiences or alterations in glucocorticoid secretion on the transcriptome and epigenome. The laboratory is located in the main Campus at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The research environment in NICHD is excellent and offers outstanding opportunities for training.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, and must have less than 5 years of postdoctoral research experience. In addition to etiological research on risk factors for Parkinson's disease, we are studying Parkinson's premotor symptoms (e.g. poor sense of smell and depression), which may help us to diagnose the disease early and to understand its early etiology.

Our laboratory investigates multiple aspects of cell surface receptors that regulate immune function, from regulation of expression and signaling mechanisms to cellular dynamics and function. The current studies have evolved from an historical interest in receptors important for natural killer (NK) cell function. Our current research is focused in three related areas: 1) regulation of expression of the NK cell activating receptors, NKG2D-DAP10 and CD16, with the hope of enhancing the immunotherapeutic value of NK cells; 2) role of lytic granule proteins in regulating NK cell cytolytic activity; 3) role of the orphan receptors, CD300s, Toso (FcμR) and LAIR-1, regulating inflammation.
REQUIREMENTS:

TITLE: Two Postdoctoral Fellowships, Department of Disease Biology, Chromatin Structure & Function Group       
TENURE: Two years, with a possible extension depending on any previous employment as a postdoc at a Danish university.
 EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The position will be at the level of postdoctoral fellow and the salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and AC, around 31.000-33.000 DKK/month (approximately 4.100-4.400 Euro/month or $65,000-69,000/year). Candidates will qualify for the expert tax scheme, which currently is 26% (+ 8% social fees) over a five-year period. After this period, normal Danish tax rules will apply. To the basic salary, a monthly contribution to a pension fund is added (17.1% of the salary), and a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate´s experiences and qualifications. The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, has been established to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance.  PROJECT:
We are recruiting two outstanding, ambitious postdoctoral candidates with a strong background in biochemistry or genetics to join our group. The projects will focus on investigating how chromatin accessibility and post-translational modifications impact DNA repair/recombination and tumorigenesis using biochemistry and mouse genetics as key methods coupled with immunological, genomic, and proteomic approaches.
 QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A PhD in biochemistry, genetics, immunology, cancer biology, or a similar field is required. Excellent publication record along with advanced experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation, generating/characterizing mouse models, flow cytometry, retroviral transduction, or cytogenetics will be considered distinct advantages. The successful candidates will be expected to drive their own research project, actively participate in laboratory meetings, and aim for research excellence.

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals and nationals from Asian countries for a Scientist/Senior Scientist-Crop Physiologist, in its Scientific and Managerial Group (SMG), to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India.
CROP PHYSIOLOGY RESEARCH AT ICRISAT:
The Crop Physiology Laboratory undertakes research on abiotic stresses, and in particular drought and salinity on ICRISAT’s mandated crops (sorghum, pearl millet, groundnut, chickpea, pigeonpea), but also involves in a number of cross-species initiatives to better understand drought adaptation across cereals and legumes. The activity of the lab involves undertaking research to better understand the physiological mechanisms of tolerance to drought, and develop or improve screening method towards the phenotyping of large number of entries for mapping/breeding purposes. The Crop Physiology Lab is currently looking to expand in the area of image analysis, both infrared and visible, to assist in the efforts to develop high throughput phenotyping methods.
THE JOB:
•Conduct physiological studies on the tolerance to drought stress in both legumes and cereals.
•Plan and conduct experiments for intended measurements in coordination with other scientists of the team.
•Develop and improve screening assays related to water capture and water saving traits in cereals and legumes.
•Develop an algorithm to translate visible images in leaf area measurements.
•Develop an algorithm to translate infrared images into leaf conductance measurement.
•Generate phenotyping data towards the genetic mapping of drought adaptation traits in different crops species
•Data analysis and preparation of reports and journal articles.
•Training of young scientists in these approaches and methods.
•Supervision of MSc and PhD students on topic related to its major core of research.
THE PERSON:
•PhD degree in Plant Physiology, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related discipline with strong background in abiotic stress physiology, with at least 5-10 years of post-doctoral experience.
•Experience with assay development and physiological assessment of drought tolerance, in particular in legumes.
•Background in molecular biology is an advantage, in particular knowledge in QTL mapping.
•Proficiency in written and spoken English.
•Ability to perform effectively in a multi-cultural and multidisciplinary environment.
•Creativity and ability to work independently and in team-based environment.
•Statistical knowledge to develop adapted designs for large field or controlled environment trials, and knowledge of computer software to assist in the treatment of images will be a plus.

•PhD degree in genetics and/or plant breeding with 5-10 years post-doctoral experience in crop breeding research, with an interest in both basic breeding research and development-oriented and on-farm research
•Sound knowledge of recurrent population improvement and hybrid breeding procedures
•Knowledge of quantitative genetics for optimizing selection programs, for refining heterotic grouping and performing combining ability analyses
•Knowledge of molecular marker applications for improving selection efficiency and enhancing targeted use of genetic diversity in the breeding program

ICRISAT is seeking applications from dynamic and highly innovative Legume/Cereal Pathologist to work in cereals (sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet) and legumes (groundnut and chickpea/pigeonpea) in collaboration with breeders, entomologists and molecular biologists. The position will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi, but will have overall responsibilities to work in collaboration with ICRISAT scientists based in Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA), and with the NARS partners in the region.
THE JOB:
•Plan and execute R4D on regionally important diseases of cereals (sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet) and legumes (chickpea, groundnut and pigeonpea) to address the knowledge gaps in epidemiology, pathogenic variability, host plant resistance and alternative disease management strategies.
•work with crop improvement scientists to develop improved varieties with resistance to important diseases of the region.
•Organize and conduct multi-location disease nurseries.
•Organize and conduct on-farm and impart training to partner scientists and extension workers on integrated disease management.
•Analyze, summarize and interpret the data of the experiments conducted in laboratory, greenhouse and on-station and on-farm trials.
•Prepare reports and research papers for publication in the reputed journals.

S/he is expected to evaluate germplasm, breeding lines and mapping populations for resistance to insects in sorghum and pearl millet and legumes (groundnut and chickpea/pigeonpea) in collaboration with breeders and molecular biologists, and develop modules for pest management in cereal based cropping systems. The position will be based at ICRISAT Niamey, but will have the overall responsibilities to work in collaboration with ICRISAT scientists based in WCA, and with the NARS and other partners in the region.
THE JOB:
•Plan and execute R4D on regionally important pests on cereals (sorghum and pearl millet) and legumes (groundnut) to assist in crop improvement and management
•Develop a database of pest spectrum, assess pest-associated losses and establish damage thresholds for key pests in cereal and legume based cropping systems.
•Develop/adapt protocols for large-scale screening of germplasm and breeding materials and mapping populations for resistance to insect pests.
•Work with crop improvement scientists to develop cultivars with resistance to insect pests.
•Develop a comprehensive, practical, and user-friendly integrated pest management modules for cereal and legume based cropping systems in the region.
•Organize training programs for the partner scientists and research support staff on host plant resistance to insects and IPM. 
•Analyze, summarize and interpret experimental data and prepare reports.
•Develop project proposals to seek funding support from the donors.
•Experience/knowledge in pest modeling
The Person:
•Must have a PhD in Entomology from a reputed University, with 5 to 10 years of post-doctoral experience in HPR and IPM in cereals and/or grain legumes.
•A strong record in R4D as evidenced by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals.
•Strong background in agricultural R4D, dissemination of information, and collaboration with the NARS sand other partners.
•Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in diverse multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
•Excellent communications skills in written and spoken English, and in French.
•A willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
