POST: Manager, Field Research Operations (Two positions)
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for two positions of Manager, Field Research Operations, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement to benefit the smallholder farmers in the dry tropics globally.  These positions will be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh.
ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).  CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and coordinate chickpea/pigeonpea breeding field research operations, including field layout and all other field operations (seed preparation, sowing, integrated crop management, data recording, selections, harvest, post-harvest data management, and seed storage), data analysis, data management and preparing project reports, and drafts for research papers. Liaise with farmers, farmer cooperatives and public and private seed companies for seed production and distribution.
DESIRED CANDIDATE’S PROFILE: The candidate should be Graduate in Agriculture or Biological Sciences with a minimum 20 years’ experience of managing on-station and on-farm research operations in crop breeding programs, including field layouts, experimental designs for plant breeding trials, participatory varietal selection, multi-location international nurseries and trials, etc. He/she should have experience in pedigree and data management of breeding trials/ programs, and knowledge of Agro-base software is desirable. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is essential.

AWARD OF DBT RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIP IN BIOTECHNOLOGY AND LIFE SCIENCES
Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for award of DBT-Research Associateship for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and applied Biology. The Associateship is tenable in research institutions/universities including non profit R & D institutions within India. The Associateships are awarded under a program sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, government of India
ELIGIBILITY
The applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. Those who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S., thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women candidates. Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers.
PERIOD OF FELLOWSHIP
The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years. However, in exceptional cases, based on the progress of research, and overall importance of the project of the Fellows, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. The evaluation and recommendation for the extension of the fellowship will be made by the host institution as per their internal guidelines.
The award of fellowships will normally start from 1st April or 1st October in a Calendar year. Accordingly, the selection of Fellows will be made twice a year.
NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS
Up to 75 Fellowships would be awarded every year. Depending on the success and utility of the programme, the number of fellowships to be awarded per year would be revised.
DETAILS OF THE AWARD
The Postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs. 22000 - 24,000 per month and a research contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 per year, payable to the host institution. Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 18,000/- per month till the award of the degree. The fellows would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to research fellowship/associateships. The fellowships cannot be availed at the same institution where the candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D. degree. Candidates who are already in regular employment cannot avail the fellowship at their host institutions. However, there will be no restriction on them to receive the salary and other benefits while availing the fellowship in institutions other than their parent institutions.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D./M.D.), one page synopsis of Ph.D./M.D. thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic). The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent, for availing the fellowship. They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, he/she will complete the tenure of the fellowship. However, they may be allowed to relinquish the fellowship only if accepting permanent employment in India. Those who had applied previously need not apply.
MODE OF SELECTION
The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, during May 2012, and candidates called for interview will be paid II class railway (non-AC)/bus fare by the shortest route from their home town. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within a month's time.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1. Only Indian Nationals need apply.
2. The date of determining the upper age limit, qualification and/or experience shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of hard copy of online application form i.e., 31.03.2012.
3. The period of experience for the post, wherever prescribed shall be counted from the date of acquiring the minimum educational qualification prescribed for the post.
The period of experience rendered by a candidate on part time basis, daily wages, visiting/ guest faculty will not be counted while calculating the valid experience for short listing the candidates for test/interview.
4. The number of vacancies indicated above is provisional and may vary at the time of actual selection. However, CCMB reserves the right not to fill up any/all the posts, if it so desires.
5. The appointment will be in the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) which is an Autonomous Body under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The appointees are also liable to be transferred/posted in any of the sister Laboratories/Institutes of CSIR situated anywhere in India, as and when required.
6. Merely fulfilling the minimum prescribed qualifications and experience will not vest any right on a candidate for being called for Test/Interview. A duly constituted Screening Committee shall screen the applications received for various posts for short-listing the candidates to be called for Test/Interview. The candidate should therefore mention in application all the qualifications and experiences in the relevant field over and above the minimum prescribed qualification duly supported with the documents. The Institute reserves the right to call for test/interview, only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
7. The positions carry Pay and Allowances, such as House Rent Alowance and Travelling Allowance etc. at Central Government rates as applicable to the employees of Council at the place of posting. In addition, other benefits such as Leave Travel Concession and Reimbursement of Medical Expenses and Children’s Education Allowance etc. are also available. The employees are provided with CSIR accommodation as per CSIR rules.

8. All new entrants will be governed by the “New Pension Scheme” based on the defined contributions for new entrants recruited in Central Government Services on or after 1.1.2004, as also adopted by CSIR for its employees. However, persons selected from other Government Departments/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Undertakings/Central Universities having Pension Scheme on GoI pattern will continue to be governed by the existing Pension Scheme, i.e., CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972.
9. Applications from employees working in CSIR, Government Departments, Public Sector Organizations, Autonomous Institutions and Government funded Research Agencies will be considered only if their applications are forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month of the receipt of appointment order. However, candidates can send an advance copy along with the necessary application fee (wherever applicable) before the last date of receipt of completed application forms.
10. Relaxation in upper age limit, qualifications and/or experience may be allowed in the case of exceptionally meritorious candidates at the discretion of the Competent Authority.
11. Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and by 3 years in the case of OBC candidates for the posts which are reserved for the respective categories. The SC/ST/OBC candidates who apply against unreserved vacancies will not be eligible for age relaxation.
SC/ST/OBC candidates are required to produce the certificate in the prescribed format signed by the specified authority at the time of interview. The OBC candidates should produce the certificate valid for appointment of posts under the Central Government.
Relaxation of upper age limit for Ex-servicemen, PwD etc. will be applicable as per GOI rules.
12. All the posts are identified suitable for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) of Hearing impaired and Orthopedically handicapped and hence they can also apply with necessary testimonials as per DoPT guidelines.
PwD applicants are required to produce medical certificates in the prescribed form issued by the Competent Medical Authorities for the purpose of employment.
13. Relaxation of upper age limit up to 5 years will also be admissible to those who had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989 subject to the production of relevant Certificates from the Concerned Authority.
14. Relaxation of upper age limit up to 5 years may be allowed to the employees of CSIR/Government /Public Sector Undertakings in accordance with the instructions and orders issued by the Government of India from time to time in this regard.
15. Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate Application for each post indicating the Category and Post Code along with prescribed application fees and self attested copies of all marks sheets, certificates and testimonials.
16. A Non-refundable Application Fee of ` 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) is payable, separately for each post, (Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD/Women/Regular employees of CSIR are exempted from payment of application fee) in the form of crossed Demand Draft valid for a period of atleast 6 months from the last date of receipt of applications. Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of Director, CCMB payable at State Bank of Hyderabad, Habsiguda Branch, Hyderabad.
Application fees once paid will neither be refunded on any account nor it can be held in reserve for any other recruitment or selection process.
17. Candidates appearing in Test/Interview will have to come at their own expenses. However, outstation unemployed SC/ST candidates will be paid travelling allowance (after attending the interview) of second class Railway/Bus fare as per rules for onward and return journey performed by shortest route on production of journey details as well as Railway Receipts/Bus Ticket and attested photocopy of SC/ST certificate, provided that the to and fro distance travelled is more than 30 KMs.
18. Candidate should ensure that he/she possesses educational qualification/experience in the relevant area as required in the category/post, for which he/she is applying.
19. Candidates must apply online through the CCMB website http://www.ccmb.res.in, on or before 21.03.2012 till 23:59 hrs after which the link will be disabled.
Mere submission of online application without hard copy (vice versa) will not be considered. Hence candidates may kindly note the following:
i) last date for submission of Online Recruitment Application (ORA) through website is 23:59 hrs on 21.03.2012 and
ii) last date for submission of hard copy of ORA along with necessary self attested documents/certificates [Xth standard onwards & application fee (unless exempted)] is 18:00 hrs on 31.03.2012 by post/hand to the Controller of Administration, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Habsiguda, Uppal Road, Hyderabad – 500 007 (A.P).
Candidates are advised to superscribe on the envelope “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF……. POST CODE….. ADVT.NO…….
Applications sent through any other mode would not be accepted and summarily rejected.
Original certificates should not be sent with the hard copy of online application. These should be produced only at the time of interview.
20. Candidates should specifically note that the hard copy received after the closing date for any reason whatsoever (such as envelopes wrongly addressed, delivered elsewhere, postal delay etc.) will not be entertained by this Institute. Any enclosure received separately subsequent to the receipt of the application cannot be connected therewith. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
21. Application not accompanied by prescribed application fee (unless exempted) or incomplete/illegible/not in the prescribed format/without photograph/without signature/ without copies of certificates will be rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
22. Candidates should enclose copies of the relevant certificates (in support of age, caste, educational qualifications and experience) thereof with the hard copy. Their candidature will be considered on the strength of the information declared in the application and the copies of certificate submitted therewith. If at any stage it is found that any information furnished in the application is false/incorrect or if according to CCMB, the candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, his/her candidature /appointment is liable to be cancelled/terminated.
23. The decision of the CCMB/CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of examination/interview will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any individual or his/her agency.
24. The recruitment process can be cancelled/postponed/suspended/terminated without any prior notice/assigning any reasons at any stage at the discretion of the competent authority.
25. The shortlisted candidates will be called for test/interview through their respective emails and hence no separate call letters will be sent by post in this regard.
26. Any resultant dispute arising out of this recruitment shall be subject to the sole jurisdiction of the courts situated at Hyderabad only.
27. Canvassing in any form or bringing in of any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.
