POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks applicants for the positions of Lecturer and/or Preceptor in Environmental Science and Engineering, with an expected start date of July 1, 2012. The appointments are made on an annual (twelve-month), academic basis, renewable for up to three years, depending on continuing curricular need and performance.
The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is embarking on a broad initiative within the area of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. A principal goal is to expand and strengthen undergraduate and graduate education in environmental disciplines. Highlighted areas include but are not limited to: environmental chemistry, hydrology, environmental and energy technologies, natural hazards, glaciology, and climate science.
Typical responsibilities for the Lecturer position include teaching two half-courses, as well as advising and research activities, as appropriate. Preceptors will be expected to assist principal course instructors with course design, management and administration, but will not teach courses. A willingness to participate in an expanding ESE undergraduate and graduate curricula and in the associated programs of research and design is a plus for both positions.
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the Lecturer position are required to have a Ph.D. or an equivalent terminal degree by the expected start date.
 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :A Ph.D. is preferred for candidates for the Preceptor position.
