SPECIALIZATION/SKILLS: Biological Sciences with
specialization in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, or biochemistry; or BS
or MS degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, with formal credits in
genetics/biochemistry or a bioinformatics training certificate from a reputable
online training resource (e.g. Bioinformatics.org)
BASIC PURPOSE: The successful candidate will
perform bioinformatic anaylses on genomic and multi-omics data generated by
IRRI scientists and international collaborators, to curate and annotate rice
genomic data and results from analyses, and to assist in bioinformatics
capacity building (training) activities at IRRI.
ROLES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform bioinformatic analyses (using established
algorithms/software/pipelines) on genomic and multi-omics data generated by
IRRI scientists and international collaborators.
• Curate and annotate rice
genomic data and results from analyses.
Out puts of 1 and 2 may include
sequence assemblied and curated public on-line repositories of genes/genomes
hosted by IRRI
• Compile and help develop
bioinformatic training materials, assist in bioinformatics training courses and
the use of bioinformatics resources at IRRI.
• Perform all other related
bioinformatics duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor(s).
QUALIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS
• BS degree in Biological
Sciences with specialization in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, or
biochemistry; or BS or MS degree in Computer Science/Information Technology,
with formal credits in genetics/biochemistry or a bioinformatics training
certificate from a reputable online training resource (e.g. Bioinformatics.org)
• Hands-on experience with open
source bioinformatics analysis software tools, both standalone and web-based
(e.g. BLAST, EMBOSS, GMOD). Experience with gene/genome assembly and annotation
is an advantage.
• Capability in using software
(with GUI or command-line) under Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems,
ability to set-up workflows/pipeline processes for standard analytical tasks.
• Self motivated learner,
pro-active, team player with good training and organizational skills
