MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR: None
ROLE PURPOSE AND PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To assist in the development and production of TreeFam; in close collaboration with Ensembl Compara team as well as world-leading protein and RNA family resources (Pfam, MEROPS and Rfam). Develop and test new features and algorithms, integrate them into the existing TreeFam pipeline and maintain the code base.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES [IN APPROXIMATE ORDER OF IMPORTANCE TO ROLE PURPOSE]:
1. Development of TreeFam database resources (code pipeline + website).
2. Develop new features in the databases by incorporating new or extending existing data sources/features.
3. Produce scripts (written in Perl) that integrate with group code base to perform various tasks from data analysis to data entry and integrity, thereby allowing human time to be used more efficiently.
4. Liaise with external databases to ensure successful co-ordination and integration of data, and act upon feedback when appropriate.
5. Plan own work on a daily and weekly basis to ensure that production and research goals are achieved in a timely fashion.
6. Contribute to publication of the research output of the group as guided by line manager.
7. Communicate with the user community to deal with queries that arise from the use of the data provided as well as incorporate data submissions from users.
