TRAINING PROGRAMME

TITLE : “Emerging trends in diversified poultry production”
PERIOD : From 09.11.2011 to 29.11.2011 (21 Days)
INTRODUCTION
The layer and broiler farming in India attained the status of industry and facing lot of challenges, at present like lesser profit margin, increased capital investment, high competition etc. Moreover, starting a layer or broiler farm need huge investment, this cannot be afforded by financially marginal and poor farmers. Since the developmental aspects of layer and broiler production almost reached maximum level, further growth in poultry industry is mainly by developing other poultry species viz. Japanese quail, turkey, duck, guinea fowl, goose, emu and ostrich. These diversified species of poultry are growing fast in the recent years and there is lot of scope for further development. Therefore a training programme on “Emerging trends in diversified poultry production” is being organized in the Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Avian Sciences, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal.
TRAINEES
Teachers and Researchers not below the rank of Assistant Professor from State Veterinary and Agricultural Universities, Deemed Universities and ICAR Institutions are eligible. Total number of candidates will be restricted to TWENTY FIVE ONLY.
TRAINERS
The faculties of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and invited faculties from other Universities and ICAR institutions.
THE COURSE
The training is designed to impart brief theoretical knowledge and practical approach on present trends in housing, health cover and feeding management in alternate poultry production. On the practical side the trainees will be trained in the Avian Disease Laboratory, Animal feed analytical and quality control laboratory, poultry slaughtering plant, poultry research farm and commercial diversified poultry units. Participants will also be taken to nearby turkey, quail, guinea fowl and emu farms and interaction will be arranged with leading personalities of diversified poultry industry.
COURSE OUTLINE
 Housing, cage and equipment requirements for different species of poultry
 Layout and design of poultry house for alternate poultry production systems.
 Incubation procedures for different species
 Practices followed by duck ,turkey and quail farmers under field conditions
 Common diseases affecting Japanese quail, duck, turkey and other species of
poultry
 Intensive and range system of rearing of diversified poultry
 Techniques involved in economic feeding of different species of poultry
 Fly control measures in poultry farms
 Scientific disposal of poultry wastes
 Lab techniques in poultry disease diagnosis
 Recent biosecurity measures followed in poultry farms
 Preparing project reports for different species of poultry other than chicken
 Economics of rearing turkey, ducks, geese, Japanese quail, emu and ostrich
DURATION : 21 Days
VENUE : Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Avian Sciences,
Department of Poultry Science,
Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal,
Tamil Nadu – 637 002.
ACCOMMODATION : Participants will have free accommodation and free boarding during the training period. Accommodation will be provided only to the participants. Accommodation facilities are not available for family.
TRAVEL : a) Participants will be paid travel fare to and fro for their journey by rail as per their entitlement for class of travel restricted however to the maximum of AC II Tier or AC III Tier fare only or bus as the case may be. (Evidence to be produced)
b) DA from the date of departure to the date of arrival will be paid in lieu of incidental charges, as per TANUVAS norms.
