Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB), Germany
POST: Head of the Bioinformatics Core Facility (m/f)
The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried near Munich, Germany, is one of the largest biomedical research institutes of the Max Planck Society with about 25 groups conducting cutting-edge basic research in molecular life sciences. The institute houses state-of-the-art facilities and has a lively, highly international atmosphere.
The MPIB is seeking a scientist to set up and head a prospective bioinformatics facility.
FIELD OF WORK
The facility shall provide support and expertise in the systematic analysis of biological data such as genome-wide pattern recognition, modeling and functional genome analysis. Data sources may range from biological data bases, large-scale genomics and transcriptomics approaches up to deep sequencing applications.
The position offers the possibility to set up and develop the bioinformatics service facility in close contact with the MPIB scientists and tailored to their research needs. The prospective head of the facility will advise and assist researchers at the institute from the initial design of experiments through data acquisition/capture and analysis to interpretation. He or she will offer bioinformatics expertise and training and will be responsible for keeping the facility’s software and methods portfolio up-to-date. Experience with high-performance computing would be an advantage.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should hold a PhD and have experience in natural sciences with a profound knowledge of their field. We seek innovative leaders with a keen interest in teaching and supervising the facility users and with strong organizational and English communication skills.
