Notice for Admission to Ph. D. Program
Applications are invited for the Ph. D. program scheduled to commence from January 2012 in the following areas of basic sciences:
1. Biological/Life Sciences
2. Chemical Sciences
3. Mathematical Sciences
ELIGIBILITY
General Criteria:
Nationality: Indian
Age: Not more than 28 years on August 01, 2012
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/SELECTION QUALIFICATIONS#
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
55% marks (50% for SC/ST) in:
M. Sc. In Life/Biological Sciences or equivalent, including Biochemical, Biophysical, Biomathematical, Conservation or Ecological sciences.
B.Tech/M.Tech /MBBS degree holders may also apply.
The candidate MUST qualify National Eligibility Test (NET) with CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF or DBT-JRF-A or ICMR-JRF or CSIR-LS, INSPIRE-Ph.D (with rank 1 to 500) OR have a valid GATE (rank <300).
CHEMICAL SCIENCES
55% marks (50% for SC/ST) in: M. Sc. or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Physics/Biochemistry/Material Science/Bioinformatics/Pharmacy
The candidate should have qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) with CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF, CSIR-LS, JEST or INSPIRE-Ph.D or GATE. The following ranks for GATE will be eligible.
1.Organic chemistry applicants: 1-500 ranks
2.Inorganic and Physical chemistry applicants: All ranks
MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES.
55% marks (50% for SC/ST) in:
M. A./M. Sc. Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science or M. Stat.
Or
M.Tech
The candidate MUST qualify National Eligibility Test (NET) with CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF or have a valid GATE rank in Mathematics with more than 95 percentile or must have appeared for the NBHM Ph.D. screening test for the year 2011.
Candidates MUST have qualified the CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST/NBHM or equivalent national examination valid for the current academic year (2011) in the relevant area of research.
Candidates who are in receipt of INSPIRE fellowship or eligible for INSPIRE fellowship for Ph.D. are also eligible to apply.
Applications of Candidates who have not qualified exams or who do not meet Minimum Criteria as per above table will NOT be entertained.
Candidates with valid UGC-CSIR JRF and DBT-JRF are eligible for fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR or DBT. Students selected for Ph. D. program based on GATE/JEST/NBHM scores, are eligible for financial aid (Assistantship/Scholarship) from IISER, Pune.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
•Only Eligible candidates that meet the minimum educational qualifications and satisfy the additional criteria set by the departments will be called for a written test followed by an interview of those qualified by the selection committee of the respective departments. The additional criteria will include cut-off for score, rank or percentile marks.
• Only candidates who qualify the written test will be interviewed. The interview may be conducted in 1 or 2 rounds.
•Candidates who are shortlisted by the selection committee will be informed the dates and details of the written test/interview by e-mail.
•Based on their academic record and the performance of the candidates in the written test and interview, the departmental selection committee will recommend candidates to the Chairman for admission to the Ph. D. program.
E-mail will be the primary means of communication. All applicants should specify their e-mail ID clearly and legibly in their application forms.
HOW TO APPLY/ APPLICATION DEADLINE
Candidates intending to apply to more than one program/Department should use separate application forms for each program/ Department.
Application forms have to be filled ONLINE between (Available from 27 September to 31 October, 2011)
•Fill the online application form completely. Incomplete application forms may be rejected.
•Attested copies of all supporting documents (mark sheets, certificates, age proof, caste certificate, etc.) are to be brought in at the time of the interview.
•Please DO NOT Send recommendations along with the application. Please carry one photograph and one recommendation letter with you during the time of interviews or ask your referee to post it to the mailing address. For the Mathematics program, IISER will get in touch with your referees (as listed in your Math application form).
•The last date for receipt of completed applications ONLINE is October 31, 2011.
