The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage a Project Personnel (Indian National only) on contractual basis for a period of three months initially for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) sponsored and South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) collaborated project titled “Development of a National EIA Biodiversity Data Publishing Framework: India Pilot Project”, through a Walk-in-Interview to be held on 30th September, 2011. The Director, WII, reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information or any other reason. O1 – Project Personnel

Duration: Three Months.
Essential Qualification
Candidates must possess Masters Degree in Botany/Forestry/Environmental Sciences/ Wildlife Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Knowledge of biodiversity related data types and sources, working experience in inventorying plant and animals resources; proven experience of conducting environmental impact assessment studies and basic understanding of EIA related legislative requirements and environmental decision-making process in the Indian context. Adequate skills for computer aided data management and analysis is highly desirable.
Project Description
The project envisage to collect biodiversity data from EIAs and develop a web based facility for long-term archival, and accessibility through IndBIF and GBIF portals.
Roll- out of EIA biodiversity data archival, and publishing facilities in India
Develop best practice guidelines for EIA practitioners, and document lesson-learnt for establishing and fostering of ‘EIA biodiversity data publishing facilities in other regions
Job  Description
The job would involve exploring biodiversity data from EIA reports, provide continuous support for data exploration from other known sources, visiting to different institutions to explore availability of recent, relevant and reliable biodiversity data, accessing EIA reports from MoEF, project consultants, electronic sources and sifting these for relevant data that is publishable and working closely with IT professionals to process data for publishing portals.


GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1.      The tenure of the selected candidate (Project Personnel) will be for a period of three months.
2.      Candidate for the position of Project Personnel shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position as on 25th September 2011. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
3.      Selected candidate will be paid gross emoluments of Rs 15000/- per month.  
4.      The selection of the candidate will be based on walk-in-interview to be held on 30th September 2011 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. All original documents should be produced at the time of interview. The registration will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.
5.      Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
6.      Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
7.      Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.
8.      The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.

10.  The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.
