POST: Scientific Officer (Research Program – Genetic Gains)
Job Responsibilities:
- Executive the field & glass-house experiments related to sorghum genomics and molecular breeding
- Data and field management and carry out routine statistical analyses
- Manage the data generated from the experimental fields
- Assist the scientists in integrating the genomics to the field
- Executive the sorghum genomics activities assigned from time to time
- Carry out the assignments using molecular markers in genomics laboratory
Competencies:
- Well-versed with field operations including experimental designs
- Well-versed in routine statistical analysis using statistical packages such as R
- Proficiency in basic molecular marker techniques
- Able write draft reports on the work carried out
- Supervise Research/ Laboratory Technicians
Eligibility and Qualification:
- M.Sc. (Genetics/ Plant Breeding/Agriculture Biotechnology)
- Knowledge of routine experimental field operations
- Good knowledge of application of molecular markers for crop improvement
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in a well-known organization
- Proficiency in MS-Office
- Experience in data management/database and R is preferred
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
The Reward:
This is a staff position in the Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) Cadre with an attractive & competitive salary and benefits package. The position is initially for three years, and extendable depending on performance of the incumbent and continued funding.
