POST: Scientific Officer - Legume Breeding For AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center
Requirements:
- M.Sc. in Plant Breeding and Genetics/plant breeding or related field with good academic record
- Candidate having at least 3 years of experience in plant hybridization activities
- Experience in legume breeding and seed production activities
- Sound knowledge on principles of plant breeding
Competencies:
- Good proficiency in spoken and written English
- Excellent computer skills including database management
- Good team player and adaptable to working in a multicultural team
- Conduct research work activities as part of a multidisciplinary team
Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory, glasshouse and field experiments , supervising off campus sites in legume breeding
- Undertake plant hybridization/crossing activities involving legume crops
- Data collection and collation, and maintenance of pedigree databases
- Assist in the preparation of research reports, journal articles and extension publications
- Assist in the conduct of training programs for researchers and students
- Supervise Research Technicians in the management of glasshouse and field experiments

This is a staff position in the Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) Cadre with an attractive & competitive salary and benefits package. The position is initially for three years, and extendable depending on performance of the incumbent and continued funding.
