POST: Special Project Scientist (Abiotic Stress Breeding)
CIMMYT- India seeks applications from Indian nationals for a Special Project Scientist (Abiotic Stress Breeding) position, to be based at its sister institute ICRISAT, in Patancheru, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh).

International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT, www.cimmyt.org) is an internationally funded non-profit scientific research and training organization. One of 15 International Institutes under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR, www.cgiar.org), CIMMYT has its global headquarters in Mexico. The Asia Regional Maize Program of CIMMYT is hosted by its sister organization, ICRISAT, at its headquarters in Patancheru, Hyderabad.
CIMMYT’s mission is to reduce poverty and enhance food security in the developing world by increasing the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize and wheat-based agricultural systems while protecting the natural resource base.
THE JOB:  Work on breeding maize germplasm for high yield, and key abiotic stresses. Be involved in genetic and marker analysis suited for various important traits. Provide support in developing selection criteria and phenotyping maize germplasm for various key abiotic stresses. Data recording, statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation, developing pedigree information, and assisting in writing project reports and proposals. Excellent understanding of field- and lab-based techniques relevant to maize breeding and abiotic stresses and management of field trials, and field operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
•Excellent understanding of experimental design, and statistical software.
•Demonstrated ability to publish in refereed science journals of international repute
•Proficiency in spoken and written English; ability to communicate in Hindi/Telegu
•Excellent computer skills, and experience in statistical software.
•Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively in diverse team and multicultural partnerships.
•Willing to travel within and outside India as and when needed.
CANDIDATE PROFILE / QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Genetics & Plant Breeding or relevant subject, with at least two years of post-doctoral relevant experience.
COMPENSATION:
This position will be initially for two years, and renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and funding availability. An attractive all-inclusive lump sum compensation will be offered.
