Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), an autonomous Institute established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, at Bangalore, invites applications from suitable candidates for a Research Scientist/Scientific Manager to establish and manage a Membrane Protein Expression Facility.
POST: Scientific Manager: Membrane Protein Expression Facility
DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of Prof. S. Ramaswamy, inStem and Collaborative Scientific Chair Prof. Jeff Abramson, UCLA , the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the newly developed Membrane Protein Expression Facility (MPEF). Specifically, we are looking for an experienced person to implement state-of-the-art instrumentation and methodology to apply high-throughput screening and stability testing for heterologously overexpressed membrane proteins in eukaryotic expression systems. The person will be expected to travel between UCLA and inStem as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintaining a large library of clones.
• Mastering over expression utilizing heterologous platforms including yeast and mammalian cells.
• Designing and optimizing screening assays.
• Implementing standard protocols and procedures to be followed by staff of the MPEF.
• Assisting in the design, optimization and implementation of membrane protein expression.
• Training and assisting researchers to use the instrumentation and perform over expression and isolation of membrane proteins.
• Management and supervision of all the activities performed in the MPEF.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D. Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or equivalent.
• Postdoctoral experience preferred.
• Familiarity with heterologous protein expression using yeast and/or mammalian cells.
LANGUAGES:
• English both spoken and written is essential.
START DATE: December 1, 2011 or later.
TENURE: This position is funded by inStem and is initially for three years, extendable to five based on requirements and performance.
