Vacancy for Plant Pathologist for host plant resistance at IRRI, Philippines

POST: Plant Pathologist for Host Plant Resistance (Scientist)

We are looking for a senior scientist who will use crop health/disease management approaches to provide practical tools and strategies to address chronic and emerging rice plant diseases in the context of changing production scenarios and climate change. The research will contribute to Program 3 of the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP): “Ecological and sustainable management of rice-based production systems.” The scientist will collaborate with a team of agronomists, crop production specialists, and breeders working on diseases, insects, weeds, and rodents.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct research on germplasm utilization to fight emerging rice diseases
• Develop robust phenotyping and screening methods to differentiate resistant germplasm
• Explore new frontiers of non-host resistance as a means to develop broad-spectrum resistance to multiple diseases
• Investigate the genetic basis of quantitative resistance to multiple diseases
• Work in close collaboration with breeders to develop pre-breeding materials resistant to diseases
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• The successful candidate should have a PhD in plant pathology/genetics or related disciplines in biology
• With at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience
• Good knowledge of advances in molecular and genetic analyses of host-pathogen interactions
• Experience in plant pathology with good knowledge of molecular genetics
• Solid experience in field pathology and plant breeding
• Good oral, writing, and English communication skills
