 QUALIFICATIONS A position is available for an undergraduate student worker with background and interest in two or more of the following areas: plant sciences, biology, microbiology, plant pathology, agronomy, horticulture or mycology.
Work study preferred but not required.
A commitment of a year or more is preferred. Availability for summer work is preferred.
Coursework in and the intention to study biology or plant sciences is preferred.
Relevant experience working in a scientific laboratory setting preferred.
The ability to use current versions of PPT, WORD and EXCEL is required.
This position requires an individual who is responsible, dependable, meticulous and organized. Good communication skills are necessary. In addition, we are looking for someone with proven problem solving skill and the ability to manage time well.   Duties/Responsibilities The position of student tech assists with laboratory, field and greenhouse research on the biology and management of plant pathogens and fungal plant diseases. The work performed may include standing, lifting, planting, sampling, evaluating, field plot management, and tending of plants in greenhouses and growth chambers; preparation of chemical solutions; aseptic culture and maintenance of fungal plant pathogens; data collection and entry; preparation of microbial growth media; grinding of plant samples; fungal identification using microscopy and molecular techniques. Other duties as assigned.

AVERAGE HOURS/WEEK =10 (to a maximum of 20 based on available work).
Salary starts at $9.00/hour
