Application for
Ph.D. Programme-2012
(UNDER JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW
PROGRAMME)
The National Institute of
Virology invites applications for Ph.D. programme from candidates who are
bonafide Indian citizens and having consistently good academic record.
Candidates should have strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading
to a Ph.D. degree. The list of available projects for the current session will
be provided to the candidates at the time of interview.
Total Number of seats (on
guidewise quota): - 08
(UR-06, SC-01, ST-01).
Out of eight above, two (UR)
seats are for NIV Kerala Unit
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Persons having passed Post
Graduate Degree in Life Sciences/Biological Sciences/ Biotechnology/
Microbiology/ Bioinformatics/ Physical Sciences/ Chemical Sciences from any
recognized University/ Institution with at least 50% marks or equivalent Grade
Point Average (GPA). 5% relaxation for reserved category students of
Maharashtra State only.
B. Qualified in one of the
following Tests (with validity as on last date of application) is mandatory :CSIR-UGC
NET for JRFs or DBT-JRF or ICMR JRF or any other qualifying Examination
approved by University of Pune.
C. Candidates who have not yet cleared their
qualifying examinations and expect to complete all the requirements for the
degree (including all examinations, project dissertation, viva-voce JRF etc.)
before the last date of application, are also eligible to apply.
D. Other terms and conditions of the
fellowship will be as directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. Age
relaxation will be 5 years in case of SC/ST, 10 years for PH and 3 years for
OBC candidates.
E. Those who have already availed
fellowship in other organizations and seeking transfer should clearly indicate
so, on their application.
F. The PhD degrees being offered
(affiliatied to University of Pune) are in the following disciplines: Zoology,
Biotechnology, Microbiology, Basic Medical
Science, Bioinformatics/
Biophysics.
APPLICATIONS:
Candidates who satisfy the above
criterion may submit their typed applications in the prescribed format to the Director,
National Institute of Virology, 20-A, Dr Ambedkar Road, Pune 411 001 before the
due date. Please superscribe “Application for Ph.D. programme” on the envelope.
Do not attach any certificates (Original or Photocopy) along with the
application, however these must be produced at the time of interview, failing
which they will not be interviewed. SC/ST/OBC candidates should attach
attested true copy of Caste
Certificate/Latest non-creamy layer certificate along with the application and
originals should be produced at the time of interview.
PERSONAL INTERVIEW:
All the applications will be
screened and candidates found suitable will only be called for personal
interview as per the time schedule mentioned below:

No TA/DA will be paid for
attending the interview. Candidates shall have to make their own arrangements
for stay at Pune. NIV does not take any responsibility to provide financial
assistance.
Mere fulfilling of the minimum
requirements stipulated in the advertisement would not automatically entitle a
candidate for selection. The decision of the Institute in this regard shall be
final and binding in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any
influence political or otherwise will be treated as a disqualification.
