Workshop on Introductory Bioinformatics, its Applications and Genome Analysis

WORKSHOP ON
“Introductory Bioinformatics, its Applications and Genome Analysis”
9 & 10th April 2012
&
“Molecular Modelling and Drug
Designing”
12 & 13th April 2012

THEME:
The primary goal of bioinformatics is to increase the understanding of biological processes. However, its focus is on developing and applying computationally intensive techniques like pattern recognition, data mining, machine learning algorithms and visualization tools to achieve this goal. Major research efforts in the field include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, drug design, drug discovery, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein–protein interactions, genome-wide association studies and the modeling of evolution.
The science of Bioinformatics, which is the melding of molecular biology with computer science, is essential to the use of genomic information in understanding human diseases and in the identification of new molecular targets for drug discovery. Each day there will be lectures and hands-on computer lab sessions on related software, actual real-time problem solving as well as open discussion sessions. This workshop will focus on the above mentioned aspects in following areas:
·         Biological Databases
·         Sequence alignment
·         Phylogenetic analysis
·         Molecular modeling
·         Drug design & Development
VENUE:
Biomedical Informatics Centre, National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases - ICMR, P-33, C.I.T. Road, Scheme-XM, Beliaghata,Kolkata- 700 010.
This workshop is meant for Ph.D. students, postdocs and young biomedical research faculties who are interested to incorporate bioinformatics tools into their research. Total number of participants will be limited to 20. Participation is free, but registration is a must.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Each participant will be allowed to attend only one workshop (9-10 or 12-13). If any participant sends application for both the workshops, one will be chosen for consideration and the other will be rejected.
Interested applicants should send the completed registration form mentioning the benefit of attending the workshop, along with their complete biodata via email to The Coordinator, Dr. Santasabuj Das, Email: bicniced@yahoo.in on or before 31st March 2012.
Selected applicants will be intimated by email on 3rd April 2012.
Attendees should bring a proof of identity (photo ID) at the time of the workshop
