The successful candidate shall perform experiments related to the genetics of host-pathogen interaction and use molecular techniques to identify and characterize diversity of rice pathogens
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Characterize the variation and diversity of bacterial and fungal pathogens of rice using virulence analysis and molecular techniques
• Develop methods for molecular diagnosis and/or detection of rice pathogens
• Assist in developing near-isogenic lines (NILs) for blast and bacterial blight resistance
• Maintain and update database of clones, isolates, and primers used in marker-aided selection for distribution to NARS partners
• Teach and train interns, on-the-job trainees, and other shuttle researchers in basic molecular techniques
• Assist in preparing presentations and manuscripts for publication
• Perform other related duties which mat be assigned from time to time by the Assistant Scientist and IRS
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• BS degree in Plant Pathology, Biology (major in Genetics), or Plant Breeding
• Preferably 2-3 years relevant experience
• Basic molecular biology techniques, bioinformatics, computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), relevant statistical analysis software (SAS, NTSYS, Q gene), good written and oral communication skills
