Probiotics for Human Health -New Innovations and Emerging
6th-7th Feb 2012
NAS COMPLEX (ICAR) TODAPUR, DEV
PRAKASH SHASTRI MARG, NEW DELHI -12

The phenomenal growth of interest in probiotics and probiotic foods has given momentum to researchers to delve into the multiple health promoting functional properties associated with probiotic strains. Despite a wealth of knowledge on probiotics, we find that probiotics do not fit into the healthcare scenario in India as effectively as in other developed countries. Moreover, there are certain misconceptions and myths associated with probiotics that is creating confusion in the minds of Indian consumers with regard to their safe use for health applications. With the ICMR/DBT Guidelines for probiotic foods already put in place, we now expect better participation of all stakeholders in promoting probiotics/probiotic health foods in a big way without compromising with the quality and validated health claims.
The proposed National Symposium will focus on the current trends in the use of probiotic organisms and probiotic foods in health and wellbeing, thus encouraging product diversification while concentrating also on the essential aspect of health. The event will bring together microbiologists, food scientists, academicians, medical professionals, industrialists, policy makers and students from all over the country to participate in the brain storming sessions covering different domains of probiotic research along with exchange of ideas and scientific discussions. The Symposium spread over two days will also have other concurrent activities. A large number of renowned persons will be delivering key note addresses, plenary lectures and technical oral presentations. There will be poster and oral presentation competition to promote young and budding researchers in the field.
