Re-advertisement for the Recruitment of Ph.D Students for the Indo-US Research Project on Malaria
Applications are re-invited from highly motivated M.Sc. graduates in the area of biological/life sciences who are interested in pursuing research on malaria leading to a Ph.D degree. This is an international collaborative research project between, Kuvempu University, Karnataka, India, and The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, PA, USA, supported by a grant from the Fogarty International Center of United States National Institutes of Health, focusing on various aspects of P. vivax malaria in Mangalore city. In this project, we are recruiting four Ph.D students and each selected candidate will work on a specific aspect of the research project for a total period of 4-5 years. After the initial training in India, the candidates will receive advanced training in the participating US investigator’s laboratory for about one year and the research will be done at one of the participating universities/institutes in India. The participating university/institutes in India are: Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka; Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore; National
Institute of Malaria Research Field Station, Bangalore; Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani. The participating universities in the US are: Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, PA; Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA; New York University School of Medicine, New York, NY. In addition to high merit, long-term commitment to pursue career in malaria research is required. The preference will be given to candidates who have passed the National Eligibility Test conduced by UGC/CSIR/ICMR. Those who have taken the examination and anticipated to pass are also encouraged to apply. The candidates will be paid a fellowship of Rs. 18,000/- and HRA as per the Department of Science and Technology guidelines. One time airfare for traveling to the US and back to India will be paid. The stipend during the candidate’s stay in the USA is approximately $1,400/month.
