CSIR-DAAD Exchange of Scientists Programme for 2012
OBJECTIVE: To enable senior Scientists of Germany to carry out specific research tasks in CSIR Institutes/Labs under jointly identified research activity / project falling under the priority/thrust areas of CSIR.
FINANCIAL TERMS: Int'l airfare to & fro the host institute/upto the nearest port of the host institute will be borne by the DAAD.
The local hospitality in the form of free Guest House accommodation, Daily Allowance @ Rs 1000/- per day for visits upto 25 days & Rs. 25000/- per month for long term stay will be borne by CSIR. CSIR shall provide inter-city travel from the nearest port to the host institute to the city of the host institute and for visiting one or two more CSIR institutes. If visiting scientists desire to visit any non-CSIR Institute the entire expenditure i.e. per diem/travel/accommodation for the connected stay and travel will be provided by the inviting non-CSIR Institution.
DURATION OF VISIT:  2 weeks to 3 months (2 weeks / two third of the stay, which ever is more, should be spent at the CSIR host Institute).
GENERAL INFORMATION: The inviting CSIR Scientist should jointly with German Scientist identify a concrete research task in the priority/thrust areas of CSIR. Letter of German scientist accepting to work on the identified joint research activity and giving convenience for the proposed time schedule of visit should be enclosed with the application. If the research activity / project needs to be continued CSIR may be approached to consider the project under bilateral cooperation of CSIR with Germany.
Proposals for delivering lectures / seminars only will not be accepted.
The German Guest Scientist should be provided with some background information on the inviting Lab/Instt and the kind of research work being done there.The concerned labs/instts, after receiving the decision on nominations of the German Scientists, should finalise their visit programme in consultation with them andcommunicate to CSIR. The German scientist may be requested to get in touch with the DAAD office and fill up the necessary questionnaire which in turn will be sent to CSIR by DAAD. CSIR shall then issue the formal invitation letter to the German expert.
The DAAD & CSIR require 4 weeks, o process the applications of selected candidates. This should be taken into account by the scientists while drafting their programmes with their German counterparts.
The following documents should be enclosed with the application form:
·         Curriculum vitae of German Scientist
·         List of publications
·         Detailed description of joint activity/project to be undertaken
·         Acceptance letter of Guest German Scientist.
·         Detailed itinerary of visit, including name of the CSIR/non-CSIR Institutes alongwith contact persons and full address of the Institute proposed to be visited along with their acceptance for providing visiting German scientists with necessary hospitality.
OBJECTIVES :To promote collaboration between the CSIR Institutes and Laboratories and German Universities/Research Institutes.
TARGET GROUP: Senior Scientists working at the CSIR Institutes and Laboratories
DURATION: Upto 2 months
SCHOLARSHIP VALUE:
·         Stipend of EURO 1840.00 per month
·         Travel costs to the host institution to be covered by CSIR
REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS
·         At least two-thirds of the stay in Germany should be focused on research at one particular institute.
·         The visit should be on reciprocal basis i.e. the visit of the Indian faculty should be followed by a visit of the German counterpart.
·         Scientists applying for this programme are expected to establish contact with German counterparts themselves, as well as draft out a mutually convenient programme for the visit. It is important that the German counterparts agree to the time schedule, as well as the programme. Letters from them to this effect have to be included with the application.
·         Invited German scientists should also indicate when they would be in a position to visit the CSIR institute in question,and contact the DAAD Head Office for application procedure.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
The application should consist of the following documents:
 2 duly filled in DAAD application forms
 2 typed copies of the curriculum vitae;
 2 typed copies of the list of publication;
2 typed copies of detailed description of project to be undertaken during the visit (at the German university/institute where two-thirds of the stay is planned);
2 copies each of the correspondence with German counterparts regarding proposed stay at their institute (including clarification of exact duration and dates);
 2 typed copies of detailed itinerary of visit, including the names of professors/scientists and institutes to be visited
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The deadline for submission of application is 15th Jan. 2012 at DAAD New Delhi Office through the CSIR Headquarters.
IMPORTANT: DAAD will not consider incomplete applications.
