VACANCY

ABOUT THE PROJECT 
The National Agriculture Innovation project titled “Responsible Harvesting and Utilisation of Selected Small Pelagics and Freshwater Fishes” aims to develop a value chain model of production to consumption system in fisheries with focus on resource and energy conservation, to be emulated by the industry. We envisage a multi fold improvement in profitability and employment generation through product diversification, efficient resource utilization and innovative marketing strategies. The strategy adopted is one of operational research and R&D efforts in fishing, pre-processing, processing and marketing segments. This project aims to address the ring sine fishery of south west cost, the dol net fishery of North West cost and the freshwater fishery. The project is divided into three levels viz. production, processing and marketing
Production: This level consists of construction, maintenance and operation of fishing system; fishing operations; fuel saving technologies onboard fishing vessels; innovative technologies for  bulk drying and onboard handling and storage for cost effective and responsible harvesting.
Processing: This level deals with preparation of value added products ensuring nutritional value, waste minimization and quality enhancement.
Marketing: The marketing level deals with innovative marketing strategies, market information system, and demand forecasting and employment generation through post harvesting clustering and retailing facilitation.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THE CANDIDATES
           Planning and carrying out research in assigned fields and organizing workshops/seminars/awareness programs.
           Taking part in knowledge-transfer activities, including collaborative meeting with stake holders and other research groups
           Compiling regular reports on the project
           Ability to work in a challenging and multi-tasking environment to meet deadlines.
           High level of interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a project team.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES 
1. Applications should be submitted, in the application format appended, affixed by a latest passport size photograph, on the day of interview.
2. Age relaxation of 3 year for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates is permissible. JOB PURPOSE:
To lead and conduct pioneering research in theoretical marine community ecology of relevance to fisheries management within the Beaufort project-plan and raise the University’s international reputation by taking significant rôles in international fora and publishing high impact papers in relevant journals. Also to contribute significantly to the planning of Beaufort research activities, supervision of
research students and to provide world-class specialist advise to theoretical ecology research projects in the School.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Lead scientific innovation by planning and conducting original theoretical research in marine community ecology, leading the subject into new territory through the publication and dissemination of pioneering research so that it can provide a theoretical foundation for ecosystem management of commercial fisheries.
2. Construct and evaluate computer-based models of marine community dynamics in fulfilment of the plans agreed for the Beaufort programme in theoretical ecology for fisheries management.
3. Significantly contribute to planning and development of theory components of Beaufort EAFM through work-plan specification,collaboratively establishing goals for research students, contributing to Beaufort planning meetings and strategic developments and mentoring and advising research students and staff.
4. Initiate and develop grant applications for further funding in marine ecology and fisheries management and make appropriate contributions to their execution (upon success), including the establishment and cultivation of international scientific collaborations.
5. Take a significant role in Beaufort Consortium programme of stake-holder engagement by initiating and taking part in meetings and other communications designed to engage fisheries managers, marine ecosystem management decision makers and other identified stake-holders.
6. Take a significant role in planning for the future continuation of the marine theory research group beyond the Beaufort Grant,
including the preparation of research plans to secure funding for the research group and its lateral extensions. Ensure that research projects are completed on time and within budget.
7. Contribute to the strategic thinking and planning of the theoretical ecology research group and wider Ecology, Evolution, Behaviour and Environmental Economics research cluster, following the School’s Academic Plan, including taking part in the coaching and developing of research staff where appropriate.
8. Manage the use of specialist resources within the research group and contribute to planning and maintenance of computational biology resources for the research group, including assisting in basic system management tasks.
9. Represent the School, the University, and the Beaufort Consortium in international meetings, advisory bodies and scientific publications, to enhance the reputation of the hosting bodies, and to gain wider recognition in the subject field and advance the theory of marine ecosystem management.
PLANNING AND ORGANISING:
1. Plan and organise own work over remaining contract.
2. Lead the supervision of one PhD student and support in supervision of two others.
3. Lead in collaborations and grant development work to extend beyond Beaufort funding.
4. Significantly contribute to annual reports and work-plans.
5. Establish academic priorities within the Beaufort work-plan.
6. Organise scientific communications meetings and significantly contribute to Beaufort stake-holder group meetings and scientific conferences.
7. Act independently in leading research activity, operating within broadly defined research objective over a 3.5-year time-span with significant decision making latitude.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for own working environment and resources and provision of computational services on unix compute-servers.
2. Responsible for day-to-day work of one to two PhD students.
3. Responsible for resource management of own research grants, collaborative enterprises and meeting organisation.
4. Significantly contribute to resource management of those of the School’s bio-theory group and to goal setting for other researchers in the team and collaboration.
5. Act as a mentor for students and Research Fellows.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Report to leader of the School bio-theory research group.
2. Direct, advise and motivate research students.

1. A relevant degree with a PhD completed in a mathematical subject (e.g. physics, mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical computation, computational fisheries science).

3. A sustained RAE returnable record of peer reviewed journal publications in theoretical or mathematical modelling.
4. Expertise with at least one mathematical modelling language such as Matlab, Mathematica, or R.
5. Experience, achievement and growing reputation in the discipline, reflected in relevant international committee memberships (e.g.ICES) and/or involvement in international research events.
6. Experience of leading the research field in new areas by pioneering creative thinking.
7. Mastery of the subject and ability to lead academic research.
8. Ability to communicate complex information effectively in a wide variety of academic fora and engaging with stake-holders.

14. The Beaufort Fellowship in EAFM was created to provide a platform for new leadership in marine community ecology relevant to Ecosystem Management.

Ph.D. Admission Schedule and Guidelines - Session 2011-12
Application are invited for admission to Ph.D. by course work in the Faculty of Fisheries for the session 2011-2012 in the subject mentioned as per schedule below.
(A) Faculty of Fisheries, Udaipur
SUBJECT: Aquaculture
DATE AND TIME OF INTERVIEW: 17.1.12 10.30 a.m.
VENUE: Office of Dean onwards College of Fisheries, Udaipur
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: The applicant should have M.F.Sc (Aquaculture) degree from a recognized University / Institute having an OGPA of 3.20/4.00 or 7.00 / 10.00 or 70% marks under traditional system. For reserve category (SC/ST) minimum eligibility will be 65% or 6.5/10 OGPA of qualifying examination as per rules.
Vacancy also exists for holders of M.Sc (Zoology) with specialization in Fisheries related subjects. This candidate will however be required to under take one year deficiency course & shall pay 25000/- per semester in addition to University fees.
Prescribed application form can be downloaded from website or obtained by registered post from the office of Dean, College of Fisheries, Udaipur by sending a crossed Demand Draft so as to be received on 26th of December, 2011 for Rs. 1100/- payable to the Dean. College of Fisheries, MPUAT, Udaipur. Application can also be obtained by depositing cash of Rs. 1000/- in person on or before 11th Jan 20121 in the office of the Dean.
In-service candidates of the University should send their application in prescribed form through proper channel to the Registrar so as to reach him by 27th Dec., 2011.
Reservation for admission will be followed as per Govt. of Rajasthan rules.
All applicants should appear for personal interview on 17-01-2012 at 10.30AM in the Office of the Dean, College of Fisheries, Udaipur.
