The Medical Research Foundation, Sankara
Nethralaya conducts a one month Hands-on Summer Training Programme in
biomedical laboratory sciences for M.Sc. postgraduate students of Arts &
Science College / Medical Colleges every academic year during the months of May
– June. This Programme consists of Practical demonstration, relevant lectures
and “Hands on” training to the participants.
ELIGIBILITY: Students undergoing M.Sc.
Biochemistry / Microbiology / Biotechnology / Genetics in Arts and Science
colleges / Medical colleges / Academic Institutions preferably in the final
year of the course and research workers / Junior Faculty in all Basic Medical
Sciences Departments are eligible to apply.

The applications should be
forwarded through proper channel by HOD / Head of the Institution. One student
can attend only one course relevant to the post graduation programme. But
students can apply giving the first, second choices of the courses. Depending
on the availability of seats the student will be given either the first or the
second choice.
The last date for
accepting applications through proper channel in the prescribed format is 20th
April 2012
Training Courses Offered :
1. COURSE: BIOCHEMISTRY - CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY, INSTRUMENTATION
VENUE:
Biochemistry Department
SESSIONS : Techniques : Paper
chromatography, TLC, HPLC, spectrophotometery, Flourimetery, Liquid
scintillation counter, Ultra centrifugation, Electrophoresis: PAGE, SDS-PAGE,
Western blot, 2D electrophoresis, Isoelectric focusing, commassie & Silver
staining, Clinical Biochemistry: Routine analysis using semi auto analyzer and
other special investigations using, ELISA, and HPLC
2.
COURSE: MICROBIOLOGY – TISSUE CULTURE, VIROLOGY, MOLECULAR MICROBIOLOGY AND
SEROLOGY.
VENUE: L & T Microbiology Research Centre
SESSIONS: Polymerase Chain Reaction to
detect / identify infective agents, Tissue culture & Virological
techniques, Serological techniques [ELISA & Fluorescence antibody
techniques (FANA)].
3. COURSE: GENETICS & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY –
CELL CULTURE, KARYOTYPING & ELECTROPHORETIC TECHNIQUES.
VENUE: SN ONGC Genetics &
Molecular Biology Department
SESSIONS: Cell / Lymphocyte culture,
Harvesting, G-Banding & Karyotyping, DNA extraction &DNA
quantification, Pedigree taking & Genetic Counseling, Polymerase Chain
Reaction, Electrophoretic Techniques

PARTICIPANTS: 10 candidates will be selected in each department.
The students will be selected
based on the selection criteria framed by the Medical Research Foundation,
Sankara Nethralaya. The selected students will be duly informed who may then
pay the DD.
The selection letter enclosed
along with a DD for Rs. 10,000/- in favour of Medical Research Foundation,
payable at Chennai may be sent to VIBS, Medical Research Foundation, Sankara
Nethralaya, 18, College Road, Chennai – 600 006.
A certificate for having
undergone the course will be issued to the students along with the evaluation
results.
The Application form along with
the CV should be sent to the Vidyasagar Institute of Biomedical Technology
